失言を繰り返した森元首相を著者は「大まじめでどこかピンボケで、存外ユーモラスな政権だった気がする」「ひとつの守旧政権の標本として歴史的意義があるかもしれない」と評している。つまるところ簡潔に言ってしまえば森元首相は「とんま」なのだ。とんま界においては首相を超えてとんま大統領。それも２期連続で再選。マイノリティとんまの支持率も上昇中。とんま一大政党。
「とんま」は、「スカタン」「ポンコツ野郎」「おなら人間、空を飛べ」のような純・罵詈雑言と違って、どこか愛着が残る言葉ではある。相当しょうもない森さんの言動を覆い隠すように、あの無害な顔つきが本質的な問題をうやむやにしてしまう。そもそも歴代首相でつい「さん」づけをしてしまうのはこの人ぐらいかもしれない。
同じようにとんまフェイス（逸材）の政治家を私はもう一人知っている。石油利権とプレンツェルが大好きなあの男だ。そんなに両者が好きなら、プレンツェルにオイルを塗っていれば咽喉に詰まらなかったのに。
