知人に誘われて、なぜか某外資系企業のクリスマスパーティーに潜入。
都内のお洒落一等地にあるイタリア料理店を借りきったパーティーの模様は、二階の一画から見下ろすことができる。約300人の社員が立食して談笑しているのだが、日本の忘年会と違い、酒を注ぎつ注がれつ挨拶にかけずり回る文化もなくて、たいへんスマートな雰囲気だ。
その外人が半分を占めるフロアの様子をムッソリーニ型をしたべっこう飴を眺めていると、会場に流れていたしっとりしたクリスマスソングが途切れ、場内が暗くなった。
2階のドア一点に注がれるスポットライト。そして聞き覚えのあるあのメロディ。
マ・ツ・ケ・ン・サ〜ン〜バ〜♪
ドアの向こうから現れたのはサンタ帽をかぶり、金ラメ衣装に身をまとった会社の偉いさんらしき外人男性だった。音楽に合わせ軽快なダンスをこなしながら螺旋階段を駆け下りて行く。
忘年会に外人が『マツケンサンバ』。磐石である。鉄板である。ハイスクール奇面組の生徒なら間違いなく「磐石鉄板」の名前がつく手堅さである。
そしてスポットライトを浴びながらフロアまでたどり着いたマツケンCEO（多分）。こういう出し物を幹部が照れることなく演じるのも驚いたが、それより衝撃的なのはその余興に社員の誰も興味を示すことなく談笑を続けていることだった。
２階から見ていると、肩関節の角度を270度使って池に熱した漬物石を放り込んだのに、池から湯気一つ波紋一つ立っていないのだ。磐石をちりばめた鉄板がバキバキ割れる音が響く。一瞬、マツケンCEOの衣装が普通の浴衣に変わっていた。
やがてパーティが終わりかけた頃、いまだ金ラメ衣装のマツケンCEOとすれ違ったので「グッドジョブ」と声をかけると、全く悪びれることなく「サンキュー！」と握手を求められた。なんとなく戦争しても外人には勝てないのだろうなという思いがよぎる。
